The government has today announced a further four week extension to the stay on possession claims until 20 September 2020. Courts had been due to resume hearing claims on Monday 24 August 2020 after a five-month pause.
The government has also announced a six month notice period up until 31 March 2021, requiring landlords to provide tenants with 6 months’ notice in all circumstances except those cases raising other serious issues such as those involving anti-social behaviour and domestic abuse perpetrators. It is also being discussed that an exception may be made where arrears are over 12 months but this is currently unclear and subject to change’. It is not currently clear from what date this new notice period will take effect.
We will continue to provide updates as the position develops and will be able to advise you on what steps you can take to regain possession of your property as quickly as possible.
